Breaking News

Welcome to Novelspot. If you're anything like us (and what are the odds of that?) you love to read. We spent a long time scouring the web for sites like this, and couldn't find any, so we had to make it ourselves. Keep in mind, we're essentially lazy, and if such a site already existed, we'd still be in bed with our favorite books. We're always looking for a few good reviewers, so if you want to review for us, let us know. Anyway, Welcome to Novelspot, the book-lovers paradise.

You've got yours, I've got mine, but for what it's worth, here are the erotic highlights of my year. So read on!

BOOKS A-COMIN'!

Rob Shelsky's picture

Well, this has been a productive year! I have two books coming out with Awe-struck E-Books/Mundania Press. They will appear both in e-book format and will also be available in print versions. The titles are:

Veracity in Truth, a Regency Romance

This will debut on January 2, 2009.

and

Faith and Fallibility, a Regency Romance and sequel to Veracity in Truth. Signed, sealed, and soon to be delivered! (Well, later in 2009).

Also, my novella, Avenger of the People, is due out in the first annual hardcover anthology with Aberrant Dreams Magazine's Awakenings. I'm really looking forward to the book signing for that.

Qualities of a Writer Who Learns To Promote

Promo101's picture

All writers who want their book promotion to be effective should consider the key qualities of a great marketing person. Two of these qualities include:

Determination
Persistence

We’ll discuss curiosity and an open mind in another article. For now, let’s talk about determination and persistence. These are two qualities that some people believe are positive traits, while others consider them to be negative. But, depends on how you exhibit these qualities.

Effective Authors Show Determination

Determination and persistence are positive traits, but you can drive other people crazy if you are overly persistent or determined in an irritating way. Are you persistent or obnoxious? There is a big difference in those two traits. I was just talking to another writer today. We were discussing how persistence is necessary for writers. This applies to writing the book, submitting the work to publishers and/or agents and promoting the final product.

Dawn Keepers

Nightkeeper warrior Nate BlackHawk rejects the notion that he and his inexperienced fighting peer Alexis Gray are destined to be together although he admits to himself she stirs his rebellious blood especially when he sleeps; she knows he is the one even as he pretends to ignore her. Instead he rejoices in the recent victory the Nightkeepers gained when they prevented the demon Banol Kax from breaking through the barrier to their realm

Vampire Romance, Rise!

When Bram Stoker first penned Dracula, I doubt he could have anticipated that 111 years later the vampire would become a romantic hero for adolescent girls. I'm referring, of course, to Stephenie Meyer's series of Twilight young adult novels, and the new movie based on same.

Well, the vampire archetype, initially considered a figure of horror, has gone through a number of transformations in popular culture over the past century. Nevertheless, I maintain that the inherent sexual aspect of vampires is not new. The great thing about vampires is that they can be reinvented again and again, in forms acceptable to different tastes. The even greater thing about vampires is that they can express the socially unacceptable in a literary form that is acceptable. That's why creatures who essentially celebrate Dominance/submission--a concept that is taboo in many circles--can be tolerated as the stars of children's books. Nifty, hey?

Web 2.0 – What is It and Should You Care?

Promo101's picture

Web 2.0 – it isn’t as complicated as it sounds and it is very beneficial for you to learn more about it. Let me start by saying that you are probably already using Web 2.0, but you don’t know it. Web 2.0 is a term that is being heard more often each day. These are great new options that we have on the internet and they can be very beneficial to you and your promotion.

What is Web 2.0

The simplest definition of Web 2.0 is “any option that gives you the opportunity and ability to interact with others”. Interacting with potential customers is something that should be important to any author or business person that wants to get information out about their product or service.

Hidy from a Self-Professed Jewish-American Pagan Writer Living In Texas

Audience Member: OK. I'll bite. What the heck does a self-professed Jewish-American Pagan living in Texas write about?

Me: Anything she wants.

Audience: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha….

Me: Settle down, folks. It wasn't that funny. Anyhoo, let me introduce myself. My name is Amy Wolff Sorter, aka Erica DeQuaya, and I'm a write-a-holic.

Audience: Hi Amy!

Me: OK, with apologies to all of those wonderful 12-step programs out there, let's answer the nice person's question. As was pointed out, I am a self-professed Jewish-American Pagan. I'm NOT a Jewish American Princess – I turned in my tiara and scepter several years ago and don't make reservations for dinner, as the old joke goes.

Unfiltered Thoughts

Steve Lazarowitz's picture

One of the downsides to being a writer (there are many) is that when you send emails, or chat with people, they expect your spelling and punctuation to be perfect. After all, you're a writer.

This is true, but my books have errors in them, corrected by editors. It is notoriously hard to edit your own work, no matter how many times you go through it and frankly, editing being the chore it is, I tend not to edit emails or personal messages. If my friends can't deal with the occasional typo, I need new friends.

Which brings me to blogging. To me, a blog should be a direct insight into my mind. Sure, if I notice a spelling error I'll correct it. But today, Allie (who owns Novelspot), mentioned some of the sentences in my last blog might be rearranged, but she was too tired at the moment to figure out which. I am sure she is probably correct. I am just as sure I won't be changing it.

Redemption: Lily's Surrender

Robin Hood took from the rich and gave to the poor. He was the poor man's hero. At the risk of sounding "precious," I have to say that there's something special about the altruistic hero who puts himself in jeopardy for the greater good. Most men may have dreams of being Robin Hood, but when it comes down to it, people--especially
thieving ones--tend to line their own pockets. But then, if you look closer at the Robin Hood legend, you realize that Robin of Loxley had more than goodness on his mind. He was also thinking of revenge. We tend to forget that part.

Like Robin Hood, Marc Gossnor has more than goodness on his mind. But because of the first scene of Lily's Surrender, we are armed to forgive him forever. Picture this: the scene is a store. An eleven year old girl--pretty but poor and probably ragged--is wandering the candy aisle. She picks up a package of candy, and breathes in the scent, savoring it as much as one can without actually opening the cellophane. She can't afford it, she's not stealing it, but her actions draw the attention of Junior, one of store owner's smug sons. Junior focuses his bullying attentions on this poor girl--our heroine Lily--and succeeds in terrifying her. But instead of Lily being humiliated, or being dragged out of the store or worse, a boy stands up for her. This boy, this young Robin Hood in training, is our hero
